Norwegians struggle with English

The Norwegian Aftenposten reports on new research which indicates that the Norwegians do not know English as well as they think, or as we might have expected.

The results of the research show that more than half of Norwegian businessmen have insulted a foreign partner at least once because of their poor knowledge of English and that:

  • 30% of Norwegian companies are holding back from expansion into global markets due to a lack of competence in the English language
  • 40% admit that their employees have failed to follow up on potential business leads due to a lack of confidence in their language skills
  • 40% admit that they have failed to conclude a business deal as a direct result of their poor knowledge of the English language

What would a similar survey in Serbia, or other European countries reveal?
